Our Story

As many of you know, Chris and I have had quite the whirlwind of a relationship. We met through mutual friends, Sean & Kim and Trey, who invited both of us to play on their fall volleyball team at Digz. It was not love at first sight. I thought this extremely attractive man was a a bit too charming for his own good. He just wanted to keep playing volleyball and knew i’d be his best in. Little did I know I would throw away the phone number to my future husband and best friend. Thank you Christopher, for being so persistent.

Fast forward 6-7 months later…
Chris was out and about for work and remembered I worked at Gallup downtown. He called and asked if I’d go to lunch with him. I hesitantly said yes and immediately told Trish that this was just a friend’s lunch. I was going to pay for my own meal just to be clear on that. We went to lunch. He paid. I said yes to yet another lunch the following week. From that day on we went to lunch about every week for months and months.
Chris took me to our first lunch that was “not a date” at M’s Pub.
M’s Pub is also the place that Chris’ parents met for the first time on a blind date.
We unofficially started dating on Chris’ 29th birthday.
It turned into quite an unexpected night when we went to watch the NBA finals at a near by bar with some of my friends. It was then that Chris decided to surprise kiss me when a random man walking by suggested he should. I think he thought it was a pretty smooth move.
We played a lot of volleyball and met some of our closest friends today!
Volleyball is one of our favorite things to do together and it became our healing place. We love our volleyball family so much!
Then came our unexpected blessing.
Our Tyson boy was born into heaven August 22nd, 2014. This would put us on a journey of healing and discovering what comes next. This tragedy would miraculously only bring us closer together. And we’d be given the opportunity to help other hurting parents by starting the Tournament for Tyson in 2015.

5 YEARS PASSED…
On November 29th
Chris proposed to
me at M’s Pub.
I thought we were going to lunch with Chad and Samantha, instead Chris popped the question at the exact place we had our first date. Needless to say I was surprised!
Chad and Samantha Mercado (best man and bridesmaid) flew in to spend Thanksgiving with us and to help plan the proposal with Chris.
Thank you Samantha for encouraging me to shower and thank you for not letting me wear my usual leggings and top knot bun (as Chris would call it) to lunch.
